Shares betting with IG Index
Unlike dealing through a stockbroker, with spread betting you can potentially profit if a share price falls, as well as if it rises. If you think the price of a particular share is set to fall, you simply 'sell' at our live quote, derived from the market price of the share.
We offer minimum deal sizes, so you don’t need to make big bets. The minimum deal size for some UK shares is only £1/point, the equivalent of 100 shares.
Leverage
When you spread bet shares with us, you benefit from leverage. This means you can bet on shares with a larger exposure than you would be able to with a stockbroker if you had to pay for the shares outright. Instead, you put up a deposit (a fraction of the contract value) to open your position. For Plus Account holders this is from just 5% of the contract value for the most liquid shares.
